Due to growth in the team, we are seeking a driven and a proactive Data Insights Manager to join us at the Institute of Physics in the Science and Innovation Office.

The role

This is an exciting role working on a highly innovative, new programme of work, Physics2020 - a comprehensive knowledge base about physics in the UK.

The post holder will be a technical lead, supporting strategic and operational decision making.They will have line management responsibilities and they will deliver data insights to support policy work, inform IOP members and contribute to knowledge exchange programmes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Development of a database containing information about UK physics
  • Source, store and engineer data from internal and external data sources (high in volume, velocity and variety)
  • Conduct research and frame open-ended questions for industry and academia to generate data
  • Employ sophisticated analytics programs, machine learning and statistical methods to prepare data for use in predictive and prescriptive modelling
  • Explore and visualise the data to present the ‘story’ of the data in a meaningful way, and to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
  • Communicate predictions and findings to stakeholders through effective online platforms, publications and reports.


The Person

We are looking for a data insights professional with a track record of delivery. Experience in the use of MySQL, GitHub, Alteryx and Tableau is essential, as is the use of Drupal to support development and maintenance of web content.

You will be able to demonstrate having implemented systems for data analysis and created visualisations that engaged and informed key stakeholders. In addition, evidence of writing reports and development of engaging digital content is also desirable.

In addition, you must have excellent communication skills, customer focus and have the ability to drive results.
