Due to growth in the team, we are seeking a Data Analyst to join us at the Institute of Physics in the Science and Innovation Office.

The role

This is an exciting role working with IOP’s Data Insights Manager on a new programme of work, Physics2020 – mapping the physics landscape in the UK.

The post holder will maintain a knowledge base, analyse data and support the development of maps to visualise trends and make data accessible to the physics community and wider stakeholders. Key responsibilities will include building and managing the infrastructure to extract, transform and load complex data types ready to be analysed and visualised.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data
  • Maintain data management systems, making sure they meet business requirements and user needs
  • Integrating new data management technologies and software engineering tools into existing structures
  • Delivering services that are automated, reliable and secure and maintaining MySQL database in AWS RDS
  • Supporting the development of reports and other content and recommending ways to improve data efficiency and reliability.

 

The Person

We are looking for a professional data analyst with experience working with multiple data sources and analytics software. You must be able to demonstrate having designed and implemented systems for data analysis and the ability to interpret and present data for reporting.

You will be highly competent in using data storage and management tools, will have a proven track record in database applications with knowledge of SQL / Sequel, and common scripting languages Alteryx, Python, R and you will be able to develop secure APIs to populate online data visualisation tools.

In addition, you will have excellent communication skills, and you will be a team player with the ability to work co-operatively with others to achieve common goals.
