The Institute of Physics (IOP) is looking for a Head of English Regions as part of the Senior Management Team with responsibility to build influential relationships and partnerships with stakeholders from across and beyond the physics community.

This role is responsible for drafting the IOP’s English Regions business plan through their knowledge of regional political and economic drivers that is in line with the organisation’s strategy whilst working with other Head of departments to ensure the whole of the organisation is run efficiently. You will be working closely with IOP’s central office near King’s Cross London acting as a senior lead for our regional team who deliver our strategy, and with the membership across the UK and Ireland who volunteer to deliver events and various other activities through a network of regional branches and centres.

The role

This is a new exciting role, reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive and working closely with other members of the Executive Team.  You will work to identify, promote and develop regional relationships and partnerships with stakeholders within and beyond the physics community. You will be maximising our impact within regional policy, education and business environments as well as making sure there is excellent engagement with our membership. You will be required to lead a team of regional managers and be part of IOP’s senior management team.

The person

We are seeking a candidate who is motivated, customer focused, and drives for results with functional knowledge and excellent people management skills; you must also be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers/partners. We welcome candidates with a strong public affairs background and understanding of the importance in building economic resilience in the English regions through research and innovation. Experience will come from having led teams working in different locations and being able to advise and contribute to the work of the Executive team and Senior Management team in planning and managing stakeholder relationships and engagement.    

We are looking for someone who has good knowledge of the English regional political and economic strategies and can support our strategic ambition. This is a very influential role, where you have to be comfortable in a standalone role, but also know how to work with colleagues across the organisation. The proven ability to achieve systemic change by influencing stakeholders will be key, with the resilience to react to the ambiguity that comes from a changing environment essential.
