Development Officer (Fixed Term Contract)

We are looking for a Development Officer for a period of 18 months to support us in our mission to transform the physics landscape for the UK and Ireland, and ensure a thriving physics ecosystem that contributes to innovation, discovery, research, growth and debate in the UK, Ireland and beyond. This a very special time to join the IOP within the Development Team, with the creation of a brand new Income Diversification strategy, designed to ensure that the IOP remains financially resilient going forward. The Development Officer will play a key role in the implementation of the Income Diversification strategy by helping to identify external funding opportunities which enable the organisation to deliver on its ambitious objectives for the physics community, the wider economy and society.

What will I be doing?

  • Research major five, six and seven figure funding prospects including individuals, trusts, companies, and other sources of funds
  • Working closely with the Development Manager to deliver legacy events by taking on individual events as projects and managing the whole delivery process and acting as the main point of contact for that event
  • Administration: which includes taking accurate meeting minutes at the monthly Business Development Group meetings, filing and data entry (both Salesforce and internal files)

Projects you work on may include:

  • Legacy Programme – delivering individual legacy events
  • Contributing to funding proposals
  • Opportunities to be involved in ad-hoc projects given by the Head of Programme Office

  • Business Development Group – consisting of our Executive Team and Senior Leadership Team

Essential Criteria

  • Highly organised with the ability to work on competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail is absolutely crucial: with the ability to develop and proof-read written documents to a high standard and apply in-depth scrutiny to prospective funding sources to ensure that they are suitable for the IOP with accurate and detailed recording and dissemination of information
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with high regard for creativity, grammar and accuracy to capture the interest of targeted audiences

Nice to have

  • Experienced user of Salesforce and/or CRM database (training will be offered)
  • Experience of writing communications to internal and external audiences
  • Experience of working in a fundraising environment
